O Come As a Diplomat, Come as a Tramp

And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. (Mark 1:40-41)

AUTHOR: Barbara Coleman

COMPOSER: Bob Dylan (The Times They are a Changin)

Verse 1

O come as a diplomat, come as a tramp,
O come as a fisherman, dirty and damp,
Just come as a child, so simple and young:
Whatever you are does not matter,
So come without fear to the life-giving Son,
For the age is turned to the Kingdom.

Verse 2

O come from the regions of darkness and sin;
Yes, come from the "good life" you think you are in;
Come out of religion with all of its forms:
Come near and touch the Lord Jesus.
This dear One is with us; He's waiting for you,
For the age is turned to the Kingdom!

Verse 3

O down from the mountain the Lord came one day;
The multitudes followed as He went His way.
Then up came a leper, an outcast unclean;
He worshipped Him, saying, "O Lord,"
I know if Thou wilt that Thou canst make me clean!"
For the age is turned to the Kingdom.

Verse 4

We all, like the leper, are dirty within;
His outward appearance is our inward sin;
We too, need the cleansing of our Lord's dear touch:
He told us, "I will, be thou clean!"
So daily we'll touch Him, and call on His name,
For the age is turned to the Kingdom!
